Foundations of Powerful Presentations

Foundations of Powerful Presentations

Understand and learn how to take charge of the impact you have as a public speaker. To master the fundamentals of public speaking, you’ll learn how to control your nerves, modulate your voice, master your body language, use of the stage to full effect and more.

What you'll get from the course

 

This course provides complete insight into the most important aspects of public speaking: controlling nerves, vocal delivery and confidence, body language, using the stage. We help you to understand and take charge of your impact as a leader or influencer.

 

 

Handling Nerves

Learn how to reduce performance anxiety by cognitively restructuring your fears and anxieties such as the “imposter syndrome”. Use the same relaxation and breathing techniques actors and voice artists use to relax your body and strengthen your voice. Discover how and where to focus your mind so self-doubt and anxiety stop negatively impacting your performance. 

 

Body Awareness  

Discover whether your body language inspires or infuriates your audience. Identify embarrassing ticks and habits and learn how the four aspects of body language – facial expressions, posture, gestures, and use of the stage – influence your audience. Become comfortable with yourself in front of groups or on stage.

 

Vocal Delivery

Identify embarrassing vocal quirks and learn how the five aspects to vocal delivery – volume, pitch, tone, tempo, and rhythm – influence your audience. Use practical exercises to illustrate your learnings.

 

Practice & Feedback

Your presentations will be evaluated based on the clarity of the topic, goal, structure, the effectiveness of its opening and closing, and how well you hold your audience’s attention. You'll be given actionable feedback on your performance along with the chance to put the feedback into practice.

 

Your presentations will be videotaped, and every student will receive a digital copy of the recording.

 

Wrap-up & Action Plan

The final step of the course is to create an action plan based on your outcomes so that you'll continue to become a better public speaker.

  • 4-week group course meeting once a week for 2 hours – perfect for getting in-depth feedback on at least two presentations each, along with the chance to put the feedback into practice. Limited to 10 students.

  • Full-day workshop for teams – perfect as a crash course on improving your presentation skills as well as a fun and productive team building exercise. Limited to 10 students.

  • Customized one-on-one coaching across as many sessions as desired – perfect for individualized, hands-on coaching and fully personalized feedback and practice.

Advanced Skills for the Presenter

Advanced Skills for

the Presenter

Build on the basics by learning how to uses pauses and repetition to stress key points, make eye contact to create a dynamic connection, use gestures and stage presence to create meaning and incorporate storytelling to create suspense. Plus, how to deal with questions and interruptions.

What you'll get from the course

 

The Advanced Skills Course continues where the Foundations course leaves off.  You take what you learned about fear management, body language and voice control and add elements such as pauses and repetition, eye contact, and more thoughtful use of the stage. You’ll incorporate storytelling and we’ll discuss different ways to organize a presentation and how to deal with questions and interruptions.

 

 

Presentation Structure & Design

You’ll learn about the three most common types of presentations used in business and how to structure them for maximum effect. You’ll also identify the type of presentation you most often give and learn how to organize it to keep your audience engaged. You’ll also learn how to design a dynamic slide deck in PowerPoint and other presentation applications.

 

Stage Craft  

You’ll expand your understanding of and skill in using body language and gestures to captivate your audience. You’ll learn how to use the stage to communicate and reinforce the ideas in your presentation, how to use pauses and repetition to create power and how eye contact and proximity build a connection to your audience. All supported with practical exercises, so you can instantly put what you learn into practice.

 

Storytelling

Discover how to use stories in your openings and closings to illustrate and illuminate your ideas to captivate your audience.

 

Practice & Feedback

Your presentations will be evaluated based on the clarity of the topic, goal, structure, the effectiveness of its opening and closing, and how well you hold your audience’s attention. Learn how to speak to camera like a natural, how to structure and build a presentation that will lead your audience intuitively to your conclusion, how to use PowerPoint to so it’s not boring, or simply brush-up on and get feedback on your presentation skills.

Speaking to Camera

Talking to a camera is different than speaking live to an audience and brings its own unique challenges and strategies. Using film acting techniques, this course will teach you how film time is different from real time and how to structure and communicate your message accordingly, how to approach the camera as a person and how to be natural, genuine and sincere when communicating via video.

 

Structuring Your Presentation  

The best presentations are carefully organized for maximum effect and success depend on many factors, including choosing the right objective, analyzing audience needs, gathering evidence and creating compelling visual aids. In this course, students will create a presentation during the seminar and participate in practice exercises including.

 

The Art of Presentation Design

Enhance your presentations with professional PowerPoint design taught by a graphic design expert. This course covers how to use images, color and text to create emotion and impact, and not merely to convey information.

 

Create Your Own Course

This course is organized entirely around your presentation needs and focuses on refining a specific presentation you’re getting ready to give or skills you want to work on. Over six sessions you will cover the key aspects of presenting and will use instructor feedback to perfect your presentation. Each lesson is videotaped, and copies are made available to the student.

 

Practice & Feedback

Your presentations will be evaluated based on the clarity of the topic, goal, structure, the effectiveness of its opening and closing, and how well you hold your audience’s attention.
